The repeated pattern of structural disintegration, both from a tangible and metaphorical standpoint, has always interested me; with an interest in the relationship between humanity and nature, but with my latest filmwork, I decided to explore human error and interaction, particularly in the case of involving aircraft crashes and the aviation industry. This work spawned from another work in progress, currently a sound installation titled Industrial Carcass, but places a greater emphasis on tragedies associated with flaws in both aerodynamic structure and human hubris. The sound design is a combination of an original soundtrack, other sound design elements, and fragments of an interview with a pilot, I have taken inspiration from Michel Foucault’s Truth and Juridical Forms (1974), in which he states “knowledge does not really form part of human nature. Conflict, combat, the outcome of the combat, and, consequently, risk and chance are what gives rise to knowledge.”
